Since June 2017 I have been working with the Heavitree Squilometre Quarry Pod on ways of engaging with and celebrating the local quarries and Heavitree Stone. Today was the day when we launched the Heavitree Quarry Trails on Exeter’s historic Quay!
If Heavitree Stone walls could talk, what would they be saying……??! Some of the group have a background in theatre production, and they created three site-specific works. “Living Things” is Heavitree-based walking performance, and was performed at a community celebration in Heavitree on 8 July. “Arch Enemies” and “Hard Case” are two family-fun, walking performances in one, around the Quay.
Others of us are artists and/or local historians. Another group developed three ready-made walking tours of Heavitree Stone heritage in leaflet form. These were available at the launch, and can now be found in the Tourist Information Centre and hopefully other tourist spots.
Then there is “Q is for Quarries”, the A-Z trail I developed on Placeify. I made a postcard to publicise it, hopefully also available in the Tourist Information and elsewhere.
And finally, I made a website to tie everything together.
Enjoy!
