Allotment Gallery, Greenbelt Festival, Kettering
27 August 2017
I had a wonderful time showing Green|Blue at Greenbelt… mostly! It just wouldn’t be the same if I wasn’t cursing how complicated and time-consuming it is to set up my art stuff, especially when I only had 3 hours to set up, show, and take down. This year I remembered to count the number of people who came by, but as usual forgot to take a proper 360° photo of the interior.
Last year the Allotment Shed gallery was on a corner that most people cut off on their way across the site. This year the location was much better, being close to a popular venue and on the way places. It was also blessedly shaded by a grove of trees, on a hot August Bank Holiday weekend.
So I counted 118, including friends, fellow artists, some people who came by last year, and many others. One conversation stood out, with a lad who was about to embark on A Level Art. He liked my work, and told a friend, who told him to tell me! I’d be shy too. But I appreciated his interest, was very happy to answer his questions, and tried to be encouraging. So I hope I remember it when I am struck by someone else’s work and am hesitating to approach them.
